What Has Value In the World?
What has value in the world and how do we determine that value? It has occurred to
me that our system of placing value on anything is quite mixed up. It is really confusing when one tries to analyze why we
value this or that thing, why we value this human more than another.
The material things that are most highly valued
are rare metals or elements. Gold, dimonds, platinum, etc. We value these so much that we don't give a thought to
the human slavery and cruelety that is used for us to obtain them. Pearls are another example. We have no empathy
for the oyster that lives out its life in pain and discomfort so we can have or give a necklace and earings.
Yet,
when it comes to valuing humans, we determine that the most valued people are the "normal" people. The word
normal here meaning 85-90% of the population. Why is it that we place so little value on the more rare humans, such as LGBT
persons?
What if we are overlooking the very valuable gifts that these rare people were born to give us.
They occurred naturally just like the gold and dimonds, so with that difinition, they are also normal. Their gifts are
of much greater value than mere jewelry and material wealth. Just think about it.
